Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 31, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Alabama CPA Directory ("we," "us," or "the Site"), operated by Brooks Conkle, collects, uses, and shares information when you use cpasinalabama.com. By using the Site, you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

Directory data. The core directory is built from the public register maintained by the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy. It is public record and is not collected from you, and we did not ask your permission to publish it.

For each licensee we publish: name, city and state, license number, license status, and employer or firm name as it appears in the register, plus a phone number where the register lists one.

We do not publish street addresses. The register includes a mailing address for every licensee, but for anyone not working at a firm that address is usually their home. As of July 31, 2026 we no longer display it, no longer include it in the structured data search engines read, and no longer store it at all — existing records were purged and our import no longer reads that column. Accounting firm listings do show a business address, since those are commercial premises rather than homes.

Information you provide. If you submit a listing upgrade, a CPA matching request, or contact us, we collect what you send us — such as your name, email address, phone number, license number, firm, website, bio, details about the accounting help you need, and any other information you choose to include.

Usage data. Like most websites, we automatically collect standard analytics data (pages visited, approximate location, device and browser type, and referring site) through cookies and similar technologies.

How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the directory;
  • Process and fulfill listing upgrades;
  • Respond to your messages and requests;
  • Understand how the Site is used so we can make it better;
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues or abuse.

CPA matching requests

If you ask us to match you with a CPA, we share the information you submit with the CPA(s) and firm(s) we match you with so they can evaluate your request and contact you. By submitting a matching request, you consent to that sharing and contact. We may receive compensation from CPAs or firms in connection with matches. We do not otherwise sell your personal information.

Third-party services we use

We rely on trusted third-party providers to run the Site. Each processes data on our behalf under its own privacy policy:

  • Vercel — website hosting and content delivery.
  • Google Firebase (Firestore) — database that stores directory data and listing-upgrade submissions.
  • Stripe — payment processing for listing upgrades. We never see or store your full card details; Stripe handles payment information directly.
  • Google Analytics — website usage analytics.
  • Resend — transactional email delivery (used to notify us of submissions and to reply to you).

Cookies

We use cookies for analytics to understand site usage. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings; the Site will still function without them.

Your choices and rights

Removing your listing.Any licensee can ask to be removed and we will do it — you do not need to give a reason. Every profile page carries a "Request removal or a correction" link, or you can use the contact form and choose "Remove my listing".

When we remove a listing we also record the license number on an internal suppression list, so that the next refresh from the state register does not silently restore it. That list holds only the license number, name, city, and the date, and exists solely to keep the removal permanent.

Removal takes effect on our site within about an hour, as cached pages refresh. Search engines keep their own copies and update on their own schedule; we can tell you how to ask Google to clear a cached page sooner.

You may also request that we access, correct, or delete the personal information you've provided through the same contact form. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA.

Data retention & security

We keep the information you provide for as long as needed to operate the directory and fulfill upgrades, and we take reasonable measures to protect it. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
